Healing Art Together Celebrates Women’s History Month with Powerful Art Exhibition
Nassau County, NY – March 23, 2024
Healing Art Together, a local organization dedicated to promoting healing through artistic expression, marked Women’s History Month with a remarkable art exhibition and speaker series on March 23, 2024. The event, held at the prestigious Josetta and Julius Pearse African American Museum of Nassau County, showcased the works of six talented female artists and featured seven presenters who shared profound insights on the therapeutic power of art.
The exhibition featured a diverse array of artistic styles and mediums, highlighting the unique perspectives and experiences of women artists. Among the featured artists was Janine Mccray-Booker, also known as Lisette, who made her artistic debut with her collection “Blissfully Bald.” Mccray-Booker’s work stood alongside pieces from five other emerging and established female artists, creating a powerful narrative of resilience, creativity, and feminine strength.
A key component of the event was the series of presentations by seven distinguished speakers, each offering unique perspectives on the intersection of art and healing. These talks covered a range of topics, from the psychological benefits of creative expression to the role of art in community healing and social change. The presenters, drawn from fields including art therapy, psychology, and fine arts, provided attendees with a deeper understanding of how art can be a powerful tool for personal and collective transformation.
A highlight of the event was the recognition of renowned artist Anne Tanksley, whose contributions to the art world have paved the way for many aspiring female artists. Tanksley’s presence added depth and historical context to the exhibition, bridging generations of women in art.
Diana McCray, founder of Healing Art Together, expressed her enthusiasm for the event’s success: “Our goal is to create spaces where art can heal, inspire, and bring people together. This exhibition and speaker series, celebrating women’s voices in art and exploring the healing power of creativity, perfectly encapsulates our mission. The response from the community has been overwhelming and affirms the importance of such initiatives.”
The Healing Art Together event not only provided a platform for artists to showcase their work but also offered attendees an opportunity to engage with art as a medium for personal and collective healing. Interactive elements of the exhibition allowed visitors to reflect on their own experiences and connect with the themes presented in the artworks and presentations.
Looking ahead, Healing Art Together plans to expand its reach with similar events throughout the year, focusing on different themes and communities. The organization remains committed to using art as a catalyst for healing, understanding, and social change.
